Each poster session author should be supplied a poster board which is 4 feet high by 8 feet wide, with the bottom of the poster 3 feet above the floor. Supply enough boards so that all the posters can be displayed during the entire session. There should be an adequate supply of thumbtacks or push pins for the authors to mount their posters. Each author should be provided with a chair or a stool to help reduce fatigue, or give them somewhere to place papers. Each poster board should display a large number at the top to allow attendees to identify the posters. Adjacent posters should have adjacent numbers. The layout of the posters should be planned carefully so that attendees can move among the posters without too much crowding or confusion.
At ICASSP-93 each poster session began with a ten-minute overview. These overviews were very popular and will probably be continued. For the overviews, an overhead projector and screen were required, and the rooms were arranged so that the posters did not obstruct the view of the screen. When planning the layout and locations of the poster sessions, take into consideration that these session can get fairly noisy.
