The General Chairperson is appointed by the Conference Board, is responsible for planning and operating the ICASSP, is accountable solely to the Conference Board, and may be replaced or removed by the Conference Board.
Perhaps the most important function of the General Chairperson is the recruitment and selection of the ICASSP Conference Committee, which the General Chairperson chairs. As chair of the Conference Committee, the General Chairperson is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the trustworthy and otherwise satisfactory performance of all members of the Conference Committee.
The General Chairperson also assigns responsibility for particular tasks, monitors the progress of Conference Committee members in comparison with their schedules, verifies that pertinent IEEE requirements are satisfied, and reports to the Conference Board on the activities of the Conference Committee. As is done by all good executives, the General Chairperson takes whatever appropriate steps are necessary to ensure a successful ICASSP.
