The most important aspects to consider when proposing to host an ICASSP are the availability of a sufficient number of Society members to serve on the ICASSP Committee, and the availability of adequate hotel and meeting room facilities. The local industry and university support should be broad enough to provide strong local attendance as well as ICASSP Committee Members. There should be multiple hotels nearby the ICASSP site so that a range of room rates is possible. There should be easy domestic and international access, appealing local attractions and good weather, although the latter can be hard to predict.
The initial ICASSP proposal should consist of the proposed year, location, and dates (usually a Tuesday through Friday in May) when there are conference facilities at a convention center or hotel available for an ICASSP of 1500 to 2000 attendees with adequate space for lectures, posters, and exhibits. The proposal must include the names of key committee members including the General and Technical Program Chairpersons, and address the issues in the preceding paragraph. The steps of the proposal and acceptance are outlined in Chapter 2. in the section Typical Involvement With An ICASSP Conference Committee.
